This FAQ has been created to guide you through the process of buying fine art and art prints from our online store. If there are any other questions that we have not answered here, don’t hesitate to contact us!
* CRISTINA, DO YOU TAKE ALL THESE PHOTOS YOURSELF?
Yes! Every listing in Cristina Photo Store features photography that I have taken with my camera during my travels and designs I have created myself.
So all photos you see are 100% unique and exclusive to Cristina Photo Store.
* WHAT'S AN OPEN EDITION?
An open edition is a print produced with no predetermined limit to the number of copies that might be made. Cristina's open editions are initialed by her en verso (on the back). We currently offer only three print sizes as open editions (8x10", 11"x14", and 16x20").
* WHAT'S A LIMITED EDITION?
A limited edition is a limited run of artwork which is numbered and signed by the artist. The limited number of prints in an edition yields a collectible piece of art. Cristina signs and numbers all limited edition prints en verso (on the back) and they come with a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity. We currently offer up to three print sizes per image as limited editions. Prices are graduated so that as the edition sells out, the price increases. Once an edition sells out, it is closed forever and will no longer be available.
* ARE YOUR SIZES IN INCHES OR CENTIMETERS?
* HOW DO I KNOW IF THE PRINT I WANT IS ORIENTED HORIZONTALLY OR VERTICALLY?
At the top of each product page, right under the title, there is orientation info that indicates horizontal or vertical.
* DO YOU SELL YOUR FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHS AS DIGITAL FILES?
Sorry, we do not sell our photographs as digital downloads. Prints only.
* ARE THESE PHOTOGRAPHS AVAILABLE AS CANVAS OR OTHER TYPE OF WALL DECOR?
Yes. All photos are available as a gallery wrapped canvas, metal, and wood as a custom order. We also consider special requests such as acrylic. Please contact us directly with your requirements.
* WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN OPEN EDITION AND LIMITED EDITION PRINT?
Wall art comes in all shapes, sizes, formats, and editions.
A limited edition print is so named because its run - the number of these prints that are created and sold - is limited to a specific number, say 100 or 20. The print may or may not be signed by the artist, and if so, will be of increased value. It also may or may not include a Certificate of Authenticity, a piece of paper or form that lists out the run size, the number of your print in the run, and information on inks and paper, and the date that the print was created. Sometimes, but not always, limited edition prints are created with archival quality inks on archival quality substrate - paper or canvas - and if so, the artist selling the print will make sure to inform you of this, since these archival quality materials ensure a superior product that will last a much longer time.
An open edition print has no limit on its run, and frequently, it can be created in the hundreds or the thousands. It also costs less, and more likely you will find it in retail stores.
* WHY ARE THE LARGE, LIMITED EDITIONS SO MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE SMALL, OPEN EDITIONS?
The short answer is, prices vary because Cristina Photo Store offers open edition and limited edition prints.
When Cristina first made her work available to the public as only large, limited edition prints, people started asking her if she'd consider making a more affordable option. She wanted to give more people the ability to own her work in some form, so she came up with the idea of a small, open edition that she could offer at a significantly lower price than the large, limited editions due to sheet paper size, bulk printing rates, and open edition nature (see the two Q's above for an explanation of open editions and limited editions). The large, limited edition prints can not be produced with the same cost saving parameters as the small, open edition prints, and therefore are more expensive.
A limited edition print is signed, printed on museum archival quality using archival inks, and accompanied by a Authenticity mark will cost more than an open edition print, simply because it has been in more direct contact with the artist. Archival quality materials ensure a superior product that will last a much longer time.
Open edition are printed on premium professional acid-free photographic paper with a lustre finish, which has beautifully saturated colours, a subtle texture, and a slight sheen without being glossy.
The image will also be lustre coated for protection. Lustre Coating protects against UV exposure, and common over-spraying found in home and office environment. The rich, enhanced sheen of this professional finishing service shields your photographs from the elements without interfering with the image.
Open edition prints are terrific way for people of all budgets to add art to their walls and lives, and it is a major reason why Cristina licenses her work to be created as wall art home decor.
Art belongs in all of our lives, regardless of income, and open edition prints make fine art a reality for more people.
So, which to buy? It is up to the individual consumer. Limited or open edition, signed or unsigned, Cristina Photo Store's prints enable people of varying budgets and economic lifestyles to enjoy fine art.
* HOW DO YOU SHIP THE PRINTS?
The open edition prints are carefully packaged in a sleeve with double corrugated board and shipped in a sturdy flat cardboard mailer. The large, limited editions are carefully rolled in a tube, and the tube is shipped inside an additional heavy duty tube.
* DO THE COLOURS/TONES OF THE ACTUAL PRINTS LOOK LIKE THE IMAGES WE SEE ONLINE?
We have made every effort to ensure fidelity between the images you see on our site and the final prints. However, since the colours you see depend on your computer monitor settings, we cannot guarantee they are 100% accurate. Personally, we think they look even better in person.
* I WANT A PRINT FROM AN EDITION THAT IS SOLD OUT, CAN YOU MAKE ONE FOR ME?
No. Unfortunately once an edition is sold out, it's closed forever. Sorry!

Chestnut-mandibled Toucan. (Ramphastos swainsonii).
Spanish name: Dios-te-de.
This toucan is common from sea level to 1,200 m in forest, tall second growth, and pastures that contain some mature trees. It can be found on the lower slopes of Cordillera de Guanacaste, Península de Nicoya, but it is more common on the wet forest of the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. The largest toucan in Central America, the Chestnut-mandibled Toucan, is a prominent member of its habitat. These large, brightly marked birds call to each other in piercing tones, especially in the morning, and small flocks can create a boisterous commotion from their conspicuous perches.
Groups of about 20 will travel together through and forage in the canopy, semi-open areas, or clearings with remaining tall trees. Closer to nightfall, flocks congregate at tall emergent trees or tall dead snags and call together. Bright plumage in birds is often related to courtship or territorial behaviors, but copulation for these birds notably lacks any sort of display, precursor, or ritual, and the entire process lasts less than 5 seconds. The mating pair, however, stays together, and forage and parent together. They make their nest in tree cavities in living or dead trees, or in old woodpecker holes for 2 to 3 eggs, and raise the chicks together. A male will also feed his mate fruit, and they will preen each other. Even after breeding stops, a male will allow only his mate to forage in "his' section of a fruiting tree. Their foraging cooperation is more extensive: often a male arrives first at a tree, and the female follows him soon thereafter; he leaves before all the fruit is eaten, and she finishes it while he moves to the next tree. This strategy of dominating two trees at once helps both of them gain more food, because most other birds will leave as soon the toucans arrive.
